This blog is the course blog hub for a writing course at the Art Institute of Seattle. The course, Analytical Writing, asks students to examine and write about works in various media.
The students write essays on selected works in fiction, poetry, film, and painting, sculpture or photography. As the instructor, I’ve also asked the students to write thoughtful responses to topics from the text Convergences by Robert Atwan; a novel, Kindred by Octavia Butler; and other topics related to the arts. I chose the medium of blogs for the responses rather than journaling or short essay writing as blogs more easily allow for the inclusion of graphics, links, or other media, and blogging on the web is more accessible, allowing students to check out each others’ posts and comment to each other, as well as allowing the wider public to access topics that may be of interest.
If you reach this blog, feel free to check out some of the linked blogs and offer thoughtful comments or “likes.”
